Human capital analysis starts with the assumption that human capital is in large part acquired through schooling and lifelong learning. While these activities are costly, they should also entail future benefits, or some sort of return (for instance, in terms of higher wages). The purpose of this report is twofold. First, it provides evidence for the crucial role of human capital for individual and social prosperity. Second, it sheds light on the sources of cognitive skills, mainly focusing on schooling and lifelong learning.
